With April approaching, nothing can beat a terrific spring day like friends, fun, and wine, whether you are a fan of enjoying a beach vacation during spring break or just having that special someone over for dinner on a warm night. One important component of any great party is the sounds. Music, much like a glass of Central Valley Zinfandel, feeds the soul as much as it feeds the body. But what kind of playlist should you choose? What style of music gives the feeling of a drive down the California coastline? I come with a personal recommendation that will be a hit in any situation. Check out two musical genres called Yacht Rock and Rosé Wave. Introduced around 2020, they give the feeling of soft summer days lying on a yacht approaching Catalina Island, even if you’re grilling in your own backyard. What Is Yacht Rock?
These genres are a subclass of soft rock, a style of music meant to invoke a velvet energy that is perfect for long days playing on the sandy coast. Much like a stone at sea, the melodic nature of soft rock is like waves of the ocean smoothing out the rough edges of Hard Rock. Producing light rock music is perfect for partying but with a Cali twist. For a nostalgic sound of the 70’s and 80’s, nothing can beat Yachts Rock. Classic soft rock from two decades that gave us great music that can be listened to over and over again. Imagine sipping a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc with its bright green flavors to Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald, or a glass of Napa Valley Chardonnay with its sun-bathed grapes and citrus-infused taste as you dance to Carly Simon and Dionne Warwick. Whatever your personal tastes are, I recommend getting your favorite bottle of Los Angeles Pinot Grigio and sipping an ice-cold glass of wine. Cooling down with light and fruity flavors and listening to TOTO’s IV, an album made for the days in April.
What Is Rosé Wave?
Where Yacht Rock takes you to the past, Rosé Wave is more centered on contemporary music. As the name suggests, a bottle of Rosé, the French word for pink, and a few great songs are all that is needed for a great time. A sparkling wine, Rosé is made by either letting the skin of the grape soak long enough to give the wine its traditional pink coloring or adding a splash of red wine to the batch for a bold or fruity flavor. The traditional and beloved color of the brilliant wine loved by those on the coast. Some would call it a lifestyle or a mindset instead of just a musical cousin to the already popular Soft Rock. Rosé Wave, like the drink, is to be enjoyed at the beachside, dressed in your most comfortable clothes and usually feasting on fresh seafood that day.

These songs can transport you where the sun never stop shining and the wine is always flowing.
